Pilgrimage is the second studio album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. The album focuses more on folk and acoustic music as opposed to the blues rock sound that dominated the first album. The album also contains an instrumental jazz workout ("Vas Dis") and a four-part harmony vocal track in the spirit of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young ("Valediction"). The album sold well, reaching no. 14 in the UK Albums Chart, but the band reached their creative and commercial peak with their next studio release, Argus.

MCA repackaged two of Wishbone Ash's most popular albums, Argus and Pilgrimage, as a single-cassette release in the early '80s. It's not necessarily a bad way to purchase the albums, but the presentation and fidelity are a little shabby, and the vinyl records and subsequent CD reissues are a much more preferable way to acquire these albums.

Wishbone Ash's Argus was so extraordinary that its popularity became a bugbear for the band. That same year’s Wishbone Ash and 1971’s Pilgrimage albums brought critical praise and respectable sales, but Wishbone – completed by bassist Martin Turner and drummer Steve Upton – knew they could do better. But even during the recording sessions for the album the gravitas of Argus’s significance was not lost on anyone. I knew it would be an important album because I’d spent a huge amount of energy and time on it, says Martin Turner. It was a bit like having a baby. I burst into tears the first time I listened to it.
