That’s just saying whatever you want it to say. It’s just us expressing ourselves without any words or format, not formalising the sound we make to words or to make music or beat. – John Lennon, 1969. Song For John (previously unreleased version) Yoko Ono: vocal John Lennon: acoustic guitar Recorded on 1/4″ tape by John Lennon, 1968. Mulberry (previously unreleased) Yoko Ono: vocal John Lennon: acoustic guitar From the same tape as ‘Song For John’. Rerelease produced by Yoko Ono and Rob Stevens. John Lennon and Yoko Ono's second collaborative album consists of five tracks: all of side one is taken up by "Cambridge 1969," a live recording at Lady Mitchell Hall in Cambridge of Lennon playing an electric guitar backup to Ono's singing and screaming. Side two includes an a cappella rendering by Ono of "No Bed for Beatle John," which discusses the refusal of a hospital to give Lennon a bed so he could stay during his wife's troubled pregnancy; "Baby's Heartbeat," which is what it says it is; "Two Minutes Silence" in commemoration.

By Life with Lions release in May 1969, Yoko Ono and John Lennon had begun performing avant-garde music together publicly. But the 20-minute-plus, improvisational "Cambridge 1969" represents just the second time Lennon and Ono had performed a public concert together (the first was The Rolling Stones' long dormant concert film Rock and Roll Circus). As Ono begins a sustained, atonal throaty wail, Lennon uses his guitar feedback to match Ono's resonance. The album cover photo was taken in the suite, with Ono in her hospital bed and Lennon in a sleeping bag made up on the floor next to her, both of them looking exhausted from the process. The side begins with "No Bed For Beatle John," a sing-songy reading of gossipy newspaper clippings wherein the press thought it newsworthy to report upon Lennon's lack of a hotel bed.
Following Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins, Life with the Lions is a focused on the frenzy of media attention Ono and Lennon’s relationship had received. It heavily features Yoko’s tremolo wailings but in contrast to Two Virgins adds in Lennon’s freeform guitar feedback as a backdrop. The name of the albums is a wry play on an old British radio program Life with the Lyons juxtaposing the media storm the couple received. It was released in 1969, the same year that The Beatles released Abbey Road and Yellow Submarine.
TAGS: John Lennon Yoko Ono. The attic of his Kenwood home was one of John Lennon’s favourite places. Today the resultant tapes are on YouTube, but back then very few people got to hear his work in progress. Two Virgins is the soundtrack to that giddy, flirtatious night in May 1968, one consummated at dawn, the event celebrated with a selfie of the two lovers, naked and tousled. By the time of its release six months later, John and Yoko had become an inseparable item, and one disruptive of the fragile equilibrium of The Beatles. Two Virgins was, for many, a step too far.

The track "Cambridge 1969" was recorded live at Lady Mitchell Hall (Cambridge, England) before a crowd of 500. Rolling Stone described Yoko's vocals as sounding like "a severely retarded child being tortured."
