AFX is a project of Richard D. James, AKA Aphex Twin. Music released under the AFX moniker tends toward a more acid-techno sound than James's other work.
Chosen Lords is a compilation album by Richard D. James, released under the aliases AFX and Aphex Twin. It is a CD compilation of selected tracks previously released on the vinyl-only Analord series. Eight of the 10 tracks are under the "AFX" moniker, while "Fenix Funk 5" and "XMD 5a" are under the Aphex Twin alias. Chosen Lords reached on the UK Albums Chart.
Chosen Lords not only marks the exclamation point on the project, it comprises James' first proper full-length record since Drukqs. While this is basically a sequenced highlights package picked from the Analord bounty, the accompanying press release insists it was the full-length James always intended to release. Even if everything here is already familiar to Analord watchers, it's a welcome return

Some say that opposites attract. When it comes to the music of Richard D. James, more commonly known as Aphex Twin but in this release under the moniker of AFX, this is certainly true. This was forced upon the listener in his previous release, Drukqs, as jarring, skittering beats met lush piano melodies. In Chosen Lords however, this curious mixture is much smoother and easier on the listener, suitable even for a dance floor (however, not your typical one). The melodies throughout the album become enmeshed in your memory long after the 56 minutes of the best of Aphex Twin’s Analord series is over. The song writing skills James has developed throughout his distinguished career are clearly evident, maintaining a level of energy for the duration of the album that could match the house or breakbeat music of any club.
April 7 2006, 1:00am, The Times. Aphex Twin zealots will have gorged already on every squelch and bleep of this compilation, given that its ten tracks were issued as a series of singles last year. Others will be pleasantly surprised by Richard James’s first album since the impenetrable Drukqs from 2001. Gone are the drill ‘n’ bass cacophonies; in their place a stream of darkly glittering retro electronica.
