Phi 1700 (U/V) is a decent sampler of early songs from Mike Paradinas, giving a good indication of the eclectic styles Paradinas would later master. The title song, one of the highlights from Tango N' Vectif, starts out as fairly straightforward Detroit techno before Paradinas inserts a beautifully sweet keyboard melody into the mix. While the bubbly cacophony surrounding the keyboard seems inspired by Caustic Window, the delicate melody is pure µ-ziq. It's a carnival of emotional expression and sonic textures

Tango n' Vectif is the debut studio album by British electronic music producer Mike Paradinas under the stage name µ-Ziq. It was released in November 1993 by Rephlex. The cover photo of the original release was taken by Richard D. James. Tango n' Vectif was re-released on 1 October 2001 as a double CD with additional tracks that were on the original vinyl and CD releases as well as the Phi 1700 single.

This release has one of the most amazing dark break/electro/idm hybrid tracks ever produced with its own unique feel. Mixes well with tracks produced almost a decade later which makes this one pretty timeless in my eyes (ears). Dropped by Andrea Parker recently, 12-13+ years old and still does its job.

Jox

Anthony Manning was around this time and the chimes on the Phi*1700 track sound incredibly similar to his work. Great EP. The last track Xolbe II has a real low-fi quality to it, the bass does all the work and it appeals as a great ambient track.
