Roadside Picnic is a science fiction novel by Soviet-Russian authors Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, written in 1971 and published in 1972. The 1979 film Stalker, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, is loosely based on the novel, with a screenplay written by the Strugatsky brothers.

Roadside Picnic book. So props to the two Strugatsky brothers for making an original spin on a well-worn concept. I love the bizarre alien artifacts described in this book. For example empties which are empty containers of some kind but you can only see the lid and the bottom, the container itself is not only invisible but seems to be made of nothingness.
Neither the Visitors themselves nor their means of arrival or departure were ever seen by the local population who lived inside the relatively small (a few square kilometers) area of each of the six Visitation Zones. British progressive rock band Guapo's 2013 album "History of the Visitation", is based on the novel.
The novel was first translated to English by Antonina W. Bouis. Neither the Visitors themselves nor their means of arrival or departure were ever seen by the local population who lived inside the relatively small (a few square kilometers) area of each of the six Visitation Zones.
Talk:Roadside Picnic. The characters in the book refer to their hovercraft as a galosh or a rubber shoe which is worn over normal shoes to protect them against sleet, water or snow. Same way the hovercraft protects its occupants against the environment of the Zone. Meishern (talk) 04:40, 22 March 2010 (UTC). Most people who read Roadside Picnic are totally clueless, or at least seem incapable of picking up on all the tiny, subtle, masterful hints sprinkled throughout. And to refer to me as some horny guy. good job, idiots. 124 (talk) 05:50, 26 December 2017 (UTC).
Roadside Picnic, . 9. Read and Save any Text online. The tangle of hair on the crown of his head trembled and swayed in an odd and funny way, clumps of dried dirt flew in every direction. And only then did Redrick raise his eyes and look at the Sphere. In these same notes, the confirmed and final title-Roadside Picnic-makes an appearance, but the concept of a stalker is nowhere to be seen; there are only prospectors. Almost a year later, in January 1971, again in Komarovo, we developed a very thorough and painstakingly detailed plan of the novel, but even in this plan, literally on the eve of the day we finally stopped coming up with the plot and started writing it, our drafts didn’t include the word stal.
