Roy Head and the Traits released a vinyl 45 featuring the vocals of Head and Fulcher on the Lori label No. 9551: "Get Back" (later released on Scepter No. 12124) and "Never Make Me Blue". In 1965 the band signed with the record producer Huey Meaux of Houston, who maintained a stable of record labels. Treat Her Right" was recorded at Gold Star Studios (later known as SugarHill Recording Studios) in Houston. In 1965 TNT released the group's first album consisting of their music recorded for TNT and Renner Records, TLP No. 101 entitled Roy Head and the Traits, which was also distributed by the New York-based Scepter Records. The original from TNT did not include the song "Treat Her Right", although it is included in the more widely distributed Sceptor pressing.

A long overdue anthology of Roy Head's best sides, mostly recorded for the Back Beat label in the mid-'60s. Besides "Treat Her Right," it has all five of his other singles that dented the charts at the time. These aren't necessarily the highlights of these 18 tracks: "Pain" is country-soul moan at its best (although it's a thinly veiled rewrite of Lonnie Mack's "Why"), "To Make a Big Man Cry" is his best foray into country-pop from the period, and "You're (Almost) Tuff" is one of his toughest rockers, with a sound.
