This is such a good song John Tams recycled it, tweaking the version from Lark Rise and adding an extra verse to use in War Horse. The traditional cycles retold. I like both versions but learnt this with the Wren Choir – so hope I have not drifted into a harmony part anywhere!! Words from any Tams site.

Over the Hills & Far Away: The Music of Sharpe was released in 1996 as a companion to the Sharpe television series. The recording features performances by various artists, including British folk musicians John Tams (who played the supporting role of "Rifleman Daniel Hagman" in the series and wrote or arranged much of its music) and Kate Rusby, composer Dominic Muldowney, and The Band and Bugles of the Light Division, performing traditional songs along with selections of original music from the programmes.
The soundtrack features original music by John Tams and Dominic Muldowney and features performances from Kate Rusby and the Band And Bugles of the Light Division. Just be aware that most of the music you heard in the Sharpe series will not be included. 12 people found this helpful. This was a really good idea!! Most of the songs are directly from the Sharpe's series but there are some that I can only assume are "inspired" from the series. There is a song from Kate Rusby which could move you to tears (if your the weepy type) and of course John Tams is wonderful. The version of "Over the Hills and Far Away" is not what I had originally expected but in the end I really enjoyed it! I now have this on my Zune and my three year old and six month old twins all enjoy this music.
