Metallica’s fifth, self-titled album, has a mostly black cover (aside from the band name and a coiled snake in gray), leading to its common nickname ‘'The Black Album’‘. It became the band’s best-selling work, starting a streak of albums and really breaking Metallica into the mainstream. The Black Album or Metallica - Album Art" Track Info. My favourite Metallica album, because it features Metallica in a time of despair; Cliff has died, their brutality and anger in the form of music presented as this album. James' riffage and songwriting is absolutely brutal and the complexity of their songs is unlike never before. The last of the classic trilogy and the end of an era for Metallica.
