The Spinning Top is the seventh studio album by Blur guitarist Graham Coxon on new record label Transgressive Records. The album is produced by Stephen Street and was released on May 11, 2009. It is a concept album that follows a narrative of a man from birth to death. The album was supported by the single "Sorrow's Army", released on 18 May. The cover art and liner artwork, like previous releases, was painted by Coxon himself
The Spinning Top crashes into the median, and it barely budges for almost 70 trudging minutes. Blur are doing what every once-profitable band does these days- hi, Led Zeppelin!- and getting back together. Coxon is doing what so many other formerly fun musicians end up doing once they've exhausted their Satan-bestowed allotment of decent melodies and lyrics: Yes, it's some kind of concept album, apparently telling the story of a man's life from birth to death, though you wouldn't necessarily know it. Street produces again, and Robyn Hitchcock is among the guests, but even.
Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Drums, Percussion – Graham Coxon.
Coxon abandons the tightly controlled punk-pop of Happiness and Love for delicate fingerpicking that's occasionally punctuated by weird, churning art rock (witness the roiling "Caspian Sea"), detours that arrive just often enough to accentuate the fragility of the rest of the record, a fragility that's enhanced by Graham's quivering sincerity

The Spinning Top", Coxon's seventh studio LP to date, is also his finest yet whether the folky blues shuffle of "Sorrow"s Army", menacing thrashes of "Dead Bees", or eight-minute daydream opus, and perhaps album centrepiece, "In The Morning". Comprising 15 original new songs, the album was produced by Stephen Street and featuring collaborators such as Danny Thompson and Robyn Hitchcock. Blur were one of my favourite Britpop bands and "The spinning top" is the 7th solo album by its guitarist, Graham Coxon. Fresh from production work on Pete(r) Doherty's delicate and incredibly beautiful debut "Grace/Westlands", this is a retro Folk/Rock affair. A concept album of sorts, chronicling the life of a man from cradle to the grave.
