South Dakota's WOMAN IS THE EARTH return with a follow-up to 2016's full-length "Torch Of Our Final Night". Thaw" is a three-song EP that clocks in at over 19 minutes and shows the band playing more straight forward atmospheric black metal than their full-lengths. Co-released with Sick Man Getting Sick Records for the bands' first-ever European tour, this 12" is pressed on blue/gold vinyl in a one-time pressing of 300 copies, and packaged in a standard jacket with a two-sided insert.
Woman Is the Nigger of the World" is a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono from their 1972 album Some Time in New York City. Released as a single in the United States, the song sparked controversy at the time due to its title and subject matter. The phrase "woman is the nigger of the world" was coined by Yoko Ono in an interview with Nova magazine in 1969 and was quoted on the magazine's cover.
According to a 2015 interview with The Grind That Annoys, the band name is "inspired by the earth being a powerful creator and provider and man being the one who takes from it and returns to it". Discography. Complete discography.
It’s as if a new black metal band emerges from America every day, always with long song lengths and minimalistic ideas. Before I know it, a band is in their third album cycle before I’ve given them the time of day, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to care about every other Ash Borer clone that pops out of the wilderness. I have no doubt that other bands with stylistic similarities would have doubled the length of their album, but using the same amount of ideas Woman is the Earth utilize here. The simplistic nature of this album is complimented by their concise approach, and it’s about time more bands of this ilk understood this.
South Dakota’s WOMAN IS THE EARTH has carved out a space for themselves in the increasingly crowded . black metal space, having released four full lengths to date. Where a lot of other groups have gone for similar n/Appalachian sounds made popular by bands such as WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM and PANOPTICON, . has occupied the space between traditional and atmospheric black metal
