Nervous Breakdown is the debut EP of Black Flag, recorded in 1978 for SST Records.
I'm about to have a nervous breakdown My head really hurts If I don't find a way out of here I'm gonna go berserk 'Cause. I'm crazy and I'm hurt Head on my shoulders It's going berserk. I hear the same old talk, talk, talk The same old lines Don't do me that today Yeah, if you know what's good for you You'll get out of my way 'Cause. I'm crazy and I'm hurt Head on my shoulders Going berserk. I won't apologize For acting outta line You see the way I am You leave any time you can 'Cause
In just 5 minutes, Black Flag, the California hardcore punk group, was able to lay down the groundwork for not only the rest of their career, but for the entire hardcore punk and DIY scene. In their first career release, Nervous Breakdown, the guitar was less than technical and often basic as well as singing that sounded like a drunken man; however, this is what made Black Flag so great. Even with the simplicities and lack of technical prowess, Black Flag showed intense and raw emotion which made their first release a masterpiece
Sample of Black Flag "Nervous Breakdown" from Nervous Breakdown EP (1978). Problems playing this file? See media help. With Rollins, Black Flag began work on their first full-length album. The sessions for the album (chronicled in Michael Azerrad's book Our Band Could Be Your Life) were a source of conflict between the band and engineer/producer Spot, who had worked with the band and the SST label since their early years. Spot had already recorded many of the Damaged tracks with Dez Cadena on vocals (as well as Keith Morris and Ron Reyes) and felt that the band's sound was ruined with the two guitar line-up (these versions can be heard on the albums Everything Went Black and The First Four Years).

Black Flag- Nervous Breakdown 1979 17:38. released September 24, 2017. Black Flag was an American punk rock band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. Initially called Panic, the band was established by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter, and sole continuous member through multiple personnel changes in the band. They are widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands as well as one of the pioneers of post-hardcore. Black Flag- Jealous Again (Full Ep 80). Sep 2017. Black Flag- Nervous Breakdown LP.
Black Flag’s debut release is an aptly titled masterstroke to Southern California class separation and the alpha-male working-class aggression to rise above it. Riff-riot furies like I’ve Had It and Nervous Breakdown showed a band that understood the rock ’n’ roll dictum that rage doesn’t work unless it’s embedded in authenticity (as well as humor). Hoarse shouter Keith Morris (who soon left the band to form The Circle Jerks) and guitarist Greg Ginn whittled down rock ’n’ roll to its purest essentials, which was just enough to help inspire a generation of disgruntled American kids to form. Released date October 1978. Music StylePunkcore. Members owning this album1.

RELEASE: Unknown quantity pressed around Summer of 1981, but quantity is believed to be more than the 2nd and 3rd pressings as it seems to be found for sale more often online... Possibly as many as 2,000. This particular one may be a version and not actually a “Pressing”. The labels and vinyl appear to be identical and only the sleeve is different. After the 2nd pressing, the band could have pressed up somewhere around 3,000 vinyl records and then quickly used up 500 to 1,000 of the 3rd Pressing sleeves and then made up the balance with the 4th Version sleeves. This is all just speculation however and we may not ever know for sure.
SLEEVE: Red ink on white gloss paper sleeve. Artist - Raymond Pettibon's artwork on front is exactly the same as 2nd and 3rd Pressings but it is noticeably smaller on the back. The sleeve is cut straight across the top edge of the front and is straight across on the back but the back edge is about 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch lower than the front top edge. It has no bar code.
LABEL: Color looks to be the same pink color as the 3rd Pressing and has the same matte finish, “Bubble Font” is used for the word “Records” and the “R” and “E” in the word “Records” touch. This is the last pressing (or version) with this specific label before it experienced a slight change.
VINYL: 7”, Black, big hole, deadwax runout has “SST 001-A” on side A and “SST 001-B” on side B.
PRIMARY DIFFERENCE(S) TO PREVIOUS VERSION: This 4th Pressing/Version a slightly different sleeve design with a flat top edge on both the front and rear with the edge on the rear being 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch lower than the front edge. Also the artwork on the reverse of the sleeve is smaller.
