Television in Japan was introduced in 1939. However, experiments date back to the 1920s, with Kenjiro Takayanagi's pioneering experiments in electronic television. Television broadcasting was halted by World War II, after which regular television broadcasting began in 1950. After Japan developed the first HDTV systems in the 1960s, MUSE/Hi-Vision was introduced in the 1970s.

Japanese television drama. Japanese television drama (テレビドラマ, terebi dorama, television drama), also called dorama (ドラマ), are television programs that are a staple of Japanese television and are broadcast daily. Japanese drama series are broadcast in three-month seasons, with new ones airing each season. The majority of dramas are aired weekdays in the evenings around 9:00 . Dramas shown in the morning or afternoon are generally broadcast daily, and episodes of the same drama can be aired every day for several months, such as NHK's asadora, or morning dramas. The evening dramas air weekly and are usually nine to twelve episodes long, though sometimes there will be an epilogue special made after the final episode if the show has been a huge success.

The debut EP from London four-piece instrumental space/surf/psych band. Japanese Television is a hypnotic bass-driven motorik jam with organ, synth and reverb-drenched guitar and classic 'surf' instrumentation exhibiting influence from the likes of Hawkwind, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Neu! Formed in late 2017, JTV take wonky surf music on a journey into space creating atmosphere and hypnotic effect through repetition, reverbs and delay, harps and fuzzboxes. Only Japanese Television are 100% Space Surf. JTV's debut EP was recorded by Kristian Bell of the Wytches on to 8 track tape.
