Both Kevin Seconds and Matt Skiba have established a ton of punk rock street cred-Seconds with his legendary hardcore act, Seven Seconds, and Skiba with the black-humored Alkaline Trio. Though they represent two different generations of punk, both have in common the fact that their music is heavily infused with melody rather than straight-ahead banging. This split album features five solo tracks from each artist, focusing on bouncy acoustic folk-punk. Seconds’s sweet, boyish voice fits in well with the simple, poppy arrangements of songs like Yesteryear and Ugly Mouth.
