Bruce Nauman is different. His influence is singular. The change his ideas provoked, unequaled. Nauman’s violin works, as the exist in the world, are only distant cousins of performance and compositions. They are objects - doubling the signifiers of music and the body back upon themselves. Rather seeking entirely new and liberated sonic realms, they employ conceptual practice, instrument, and rhythm to strike direct confrontation - sculpting something far more challenging and difficult to define.

A soundtrack album is any album that incorporates music directly recorded from the soundtrack of a particular feature film or television show. The first such album to be commercially released was Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the soundtrack to the film of the same name, in 1938. The first soundtrack album of a film's orchestral score was that for Alexander Korda's 1942 film Jungle Book, composed by Miklós Rózsa.
Artwork page for ‘a’, Bruce Nauman, 1970 Nauman has explained that these Studies for Holograms grew out of his performance works: 'The idea of making faces had to do with thinking about the body as something you can manipulate. I had done some performance pieces - rigorous works dealing with standing, leaning, bending - and as they were performed, some of them seemed to carry a large emotional impact. The holograms were projected onto glass and have an eery underwater quality reminiscent of a horror movie. Studies for Holograms are Nauman's first screenprints and were produced in collaboration with Aetna Studios, New York.
