The complete session recorded by The Wedding Present on 11 February 1986 for the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 and broadcast on the 26th of that month.
The Wedding Present are a British indie rock group originally formed in 1985 in Leeds, England, from the ashes of the Lost Pandas. The band's music has evolved from fast-paced indie rock in the vein of their most obvious influences The Fall, Buzzcocks and Gang of Four to more varied forms. Throughout their career, they have been led by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's only constant member.

Tommy provides an overview of the band's output before its first album George Best. The production is relatively low fidelity but the songs are high-energy. All tracks of their first four singles are included except for "You Should Always Keep in Touch with Your Friends", the double A-side with "This Boy Can Wait", as the radio version was deemed superior.

Tommy is a compilation album by The Wedding Present, originally released in 1988, collecting songs from the band’s first four singles, plus four tracks recorded for BBC Radio sessions. Bringing together material written in the band’s first two years of existence, Tommy proved that The Wedding Present’s essence was in place from the start. These kinetic blasts of homespun high-velocity bedsit drama presaged the more finessed George Best, but represented the band’s definitive portrayal.
Went to see The Wedding Present at the 02 Academy Islington last night and they were awesome. Ostensibly a 30 year celebration of their Singles album Tommy, there was a sprinkling of other tracks and frontman David Gedge was on fine form as was the band generally. Still sound fantastic. Played George Best album which was superb, plus a host of other brilliant songs. Great to see David behind the counter signing merchandising. Report as inappropriate.
