Humbug is the third studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, first released on 19 August 2009 through the Domino Recording Company. The band started to write songs for the album towards the end of summer 2008, and finished it entirely in spring 2009. Like their previous release, Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug was released first in Japan, on 19 August 2009, followed by Australia, Brazil, Ireland and Germany, on 21 August 2009
Humbug is Arctic Monkeys' third studio album. The album was recorded at the luxurious Rancho de la Luna during a pause in touring and activity in 2008. This short hiatus was a change in pace after the quick work ethic displayed in between their debut and Favourite Worst Nightmare. The trippy, brash sound used in the new record was adopted partly with the help of Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. The sounds developed on the album showed AM charting an entirely new landscape that was left untouched on their first two albums. Humbug was the group’s third consecutive album to immediately chart at on the UK Billboard top 200, further proving their longevity.
So in reality, it's not too surprising that Humbug is the weakest Arctic Monkeys album yet. What is surprising, though, is where the strengths and weaknesses of this album lie. You'd expect the songs to impress and the sound to disappoint, and yet, the exact opposite is true. However regularly Homme has disappointed since Songs for the Deaf made him a star, and whatever stories have come out about his personal life, you simply can't fault what he does here - the sound is basically perfect.
The hype surrounding Arctic Monkeys' 2006 debut album was so monstrous it threatened to swallow the band and its music whole. And a lesser band might have been swallowed, but it should be clear by now that Arctic Monkeys weren't undone by a little media frenzy. It's no surprise: They're a skilled band that writes complex songs filled with unexpected musical turns, wit, and observational acumen.
Humbug makes two things clear: Arctic Monkeys are serious about being in a band, about making music, and they are the first major British band in generations unencumbered by fear or spite for America. Humbug is a very deserving title for such a moody-sounding album. The new psychedelic/stoner rock direction presents some of the best songs the Arctic Monkeys have ever written. Alex Turner steals the show with his clever lyrics and vocal personality on top of Josh Homme’s great production. Fav Tracks: Cornerstone, Crying Lightning, The Jeweller’s Hands, Secret Door, Dance Little Liar, My Propeller, Pretty Visitors.

i can’t believe what a good album humbug by arctic monkeys is. the whole album’s got this dark, eerie feel to it. sometimes it gets a little grungey, sometimes a little whimsical. there are several moments where alex’s vocal delivery is so smooth and low and calm but then it’s got this intense guitar and bass surrounding it like. no single from it has been dropped, and there were some fairly humbug-sounding moments on tlsp’s 2016 album, so perhaps we may be in store for some more on this next album. every time i think about am6 and how little an idea of what to expect we have i just think, man, i really. could go for a second humbug. i love humbug, and i love arctic monkeys. you cannot convince me there’s a better arctic monkeys album than humbug, i will not accept it.
