Perhaps Rated O represents the encyclopedic representation of ONEIDA MUSIC, ONEIDA CREATIVITY and ONEIDA INSATIABILITY. As the leviathan rises from the murky depths to endow the idle watch with illusion, disillusionment and mortal terror - thus Oneida leaves a hieroglyphic spume upon the glassy surface of what is KNOWN and UNKNOWN. This album is an attempt to contain the entirety of Oneida and thus it points the way to infinite rebirth and boundless creativity. We finally have in our hands the album that Oneida has often gestured towards.

Only a band as inscrutable as Oneida would attempt a 3xCD in 2009; only a band brimming with this many ideas could pull it of. Maybe you've never met Oneida
With Oneida’s ambitions running skyward in the digital age, for Rated O they took the risk of all risks and released a triple album. Self-indulgent as that may seem, recording in bulk works especially well for the rhythmic Brooklynites. Considering that they have often prided themselves on both being experimental and taking repetition to the limit, a long running time of 108 minutes only feels natural - and with such a huge canvas to work with, they expand their palette accordingly, adding some new styles to the mix to maintain interest throughout. The production is cavernous and haunting, and the riffs are beastly, making Luxury Travel sound something like a cross between Clinic and Isis. The dust clears for disc three, as the organ-guitar-drums trio explores its psychedelic side with three songs: O, a sitar trip-fest; End of Time, an organ drone and shaker; and the 20-plus-minute jam Folk Wisdom.
Moreover, Oneida display a daring creativity that ensures that Rated O is far more than a straightforward passive experience. This is music that provokes and challenges and the rewards are handsomely rich. Each of the discs contained herein offer a different aural facet to the group. On the first, Oneida push the envelope through a series of neo-dub and electro workouts that are far from the beaten track. Brownout In Lagos' is the uncompromising opener.
