You Are What You Is is a double album by American musician Frank Zappa.
You Are What You Is" is a single which Frank Zappa released from his 1981 album of the same title. The song is known for going out of its way to use improper English, basically mocking the rest of its context. It was the B-side for 1982 single "Valley Girl". This song was also remixed for the 1984 album Thing-Fish. The lyrics, which essentially tell the listener to be themselves and embrace their culture, tell the stories of two young men, both of whom Zappa describes as "foolish"

Occasionally, Zappa's satirical points seem ill-thought-out, if not unnecessarily malicious; "Jumbo Go Away" is perhaps the most offensive song in Zappa's huge canon of potentially offensive songs, a tale of a whining, VD-riddled groupie who is portrayed as deserving the punch in the face she gets from an irritated musician
Produced by Frank Zappa. Album You Are What You Is. You Are What You Is Lyrics. Do you know what you are? You are what you is You is what you am (A cow don't make ham. You ain't what you're not So see what you got You are what you is An' that's all it 'tis. A foolish young man From a middle class fam'ly Started singin' the blues Cause he thought it was manly Now he talks like the Kingfish ("Saffiiiee!") From Amos 'n Andy ("Holy mack'l dere.
Frank Zappa's music is famous for a number of reasons: his eclectic lyrics, his satire, his brilliant guitar riffs, his use of genre hopping, and his variety of vocalists. By showcasing the ability to release classic after classic nearly every year since his debut, (in some cases multiple albums a year would be released) Zappa had a knack for constantly topping himself. The range of topics Zappa facetiously plays around with walks a fine line between satirical perfection and immature mindlessness. The thing about Zappa's satire that's so engaging is that he doesn't beat around the bush, he hits you with a cinderblock of opinions. The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing" is a perfect example of this.
Released in 1981, this album contains Zappa's takes on the smell of teen spirit, organized religion, Saturday Night Live's Coneheads, and even racial issues. Highpoints include the mock country of "Harder Than Your Husband," pure-FZ injection of "Theme From 3rd Movement of Sinister Footwear," and the kinetic vocal-drenched title track. What is downright prophetic, however is the subject matter: this album was released in 1981, and what Frank sings about passionately and critically is exactly what would play itself out for the next nine years and out of control, the rise and reign of the yuppie, political maneuvering in town, city, state and country.
