Warren Sampson - Traveller (excerpts). 11 months ago 11 months ago. Ambient. Traveller was recorded in a bedroom closet studio on a four-track TEAC reel-to-reel between the late 1970s through the mid 1980s. Not long after its release in 1987, almost all of the copies of the LP ended up in a landfill. We’re proud to be able to (re)introduce such a marvelous, humanity filled work back into the world. Palpably conjuring the subtle, dimming, crystalline beauty of a Northern midwinter twilight via skeletal guitars, icy keyboard tones, and slowly shifting drones, Sampson magically collapses that vast big open into the reflection found on a single frozen leaf.

Warren Sampson released his only album, Traveller, in 1987 and not long after, it was gone. Not gone in the figurative sense as in ignored or quickly forgotten, but rather literally gone as Sampson threw most of the original pressing in a landfill. It's fortunate for us, then, that Chicago-based label Love All Day (who resurrected another beautiful, private-press obscurity, Planetary Peace ) presents a timely reissue of this lost ambient classic. At its heart, Traveller drew inspiration from a painting that Sampson first saw in London in 1980
Traveller is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton. The album was produced by Dave Cobb and Stapleton, and was released on May 5, 2015, through Mercury Nashville. Described by music publications as an old-school country, Southern rock record, Traveller received critical acclaim and earned Stapleton several awards. It was named Album of the Year at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards
LP 1987 US Reissue (Love All Day). 31,44 € 36,99 € -15%. Hailing from Minnesota, for this album Warren Sampson was seriously inspired by the early output of Brian Eno and Jon Hassell.
Warren Sampson’s Traveller, released in extremely limited quantities in 1987, is a wonder, taking listeners on a journey through misty/mystical landscapes reminiscent of Brian Eno’s On Land or Jon Hassel’s Fourth World reveries. Even though those comparisons are of a certain bygone age, Traveller (recorded from the late 70s through the mid-80s) sounds startlingly up-to-date, with Sampson weaving ghostly electric guitar and analog synths into a gorgeous tapestry. It feels fully realized and assured – even if its maker ended up trashing most of the original pressings
