The House of Love is the eponymous debut album by the British alternative rock band The House of Love. Released in June 1988 by Creation Records, the album was a critical success. It appeared in many 1988 critics' lists, in NME, Melody Maker, and Sounds. The album was recorded following the departure member of founder member Andrea Heukamp, who had played on the band's early singles.

Deluxe reissue of the House Of Love’s classic debut album, set in a hardback case with five discs presenting the original album, singles, demos, BBC session and live recordings. Ian Canty listens in and reflects on the stormy relationships behind the music. Four songs taped in June 1988 as the debut album was being released start this section of the boxset. Here the House Of Love elect not to rehash anything on that record, instead a zippy version of upcoming single Destroy The Heart and the glistening guitars and Smiths-style melancholy of Blind steal the show. Three months later and they were back on the Peel Show, the slow build-up on the new version of album track Love In A Car and rarer item in the languid Don’t Turn Blue (aka Soft As Fire) being highlights.
Chadwick soldiered on with The House of Love for another couple of albums after Bickers' departure, but called it a day in 1994. I stayed in bed for three years after that," he says blithely. I was very depressed, unable to function, effectively dead. The pair have already committed to making another album as The House of Love. It's still early days," says Bickers with a smile. But communication is good and so is the music.
The alternative rock band The House of Love is like a treasure hidden in the UK’s music scene. The band had gone through a famous break-up in 1993 after their early successful singles such as Christine and Shine On. The break-up between lead singer Guy Chadwick and lead guitarist Terry Bicker inevitably held their career back to some degree. The fact that they are not big names such as Radiohead and The Smiths gives them a great deal of affinity. When promoting their new album in 2013, the band received a fan’s regards on Tom Robinson’s radio session. Steven the fan told the band that he saw Terry Bickers in his hometown in the 1980s, and now he would go to their show and stock them with his son. This kind of chitchat removes the rock star halo from the band.
British noise pop band whose shimmering guitars, effortless melodicism, and cavernous production made them indie darlings in the late '80s.
The House of Love had an excellent sound. Still sound great today. U2 just managed to scrape in there by the skin of their teeth. Seminal album - big part of my early years - really changed my guitar style - great band. I loved the House of Love. It's still a great sound, very well produced. Cuántas emociones me provoca escuchar estos relatos! Uno ha vivido tantas experiencias musicalizadas con The House of Love que es imposible separar una de la otra.
