It is his second shave. He will place the razor on the edge of the sink, it will fall into the basin, but with the grace that an inanimate object, a prop, can give to a well directed scene in a comedy of manners. Bessie has concern only for her family, and none that her family will be seen by overwrought critics as Picasso’s Saltimbanques updated, moved to Manhattan, become more successful and more fucked up. But she notices Zooey’s profile as he shaves, and for an instant she’s taken away and about to dance again with her children’s father.
The Glass family are a fictional family appearing in J. D. Salinger's short fiction. All but one of the Glass family stories were first published in The New Yorker. They appear in the short story collections Nine Stories, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction and Franny and Zooey. The Glass family, from eldest to youngest: Les and Bessie Glass (née Gallagher): Retired vaudeville performers
Austin, TX, indie rock quintet the Glass Family had their earliest incarnation at a party in winter 2001 with Tony Daugherty (drums) and Michael Winningham (vocals, guitar). After a few lineup shifts, they secured Frank Alexander (keyboard), Jeremy Gomez (bass), and Brian Hubbard (guitar). Their debut album, Sleep Inside This Wheel, finally arrived in early 2006 through i eat records. The Glass Family gained exposure through supporting gigs with Okkervil River, Earlimart, the Decemberists, and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness.
