Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and music partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo

Lady Day: The Complete Billie Holiday on Columbia - 1933-1944. These famous recordings, dating from 1944-1950 and produced by Milt Gabler, represent the full ripening of Billie's prodigious talent. This 2-CD set-her entire output for Decca-includes 10 unreleased tracks, a collectable booklet and such Lady Day standards as God Bless the Child and Lover Man. Holiday recorded for Decca between 1944 and 1950, a period in which she was at the heights of both her popularity and her vocal powers.
